Captain’s Message

It has been a very thrilling time over the last months with the Championships, Northern County Match Week and then the Challenge Bowl.

A wonderful competition at Malton and Norton saw Megan Garland regain her title as County Champion with a win over Deb Henery.  Some excellent performances in the event resulted in selection for the County squad with three players making their debuts at Seaton Carew. Despite the most appalling weather at the start of the week, it was one of the most fiercely contested competitions of recent years and reached the final day with the top three positions being decided by “derby matches” between Durham and Northumberland and Yorkshire and Lancashire. An amazing fightback by our team put us at the top of the pile and with the honour of representing the Northern Region again, at Cheshire in September at the England County finals.

There was hardly time to draw breath before the Challenge Bowl was on us, held at Selby. This time the weather was beautiful but the course still proved challenging with only one player beating par on the first qualifying day. The knockout matches ended with a well contested final between Tracey Cooper of Low Laithes and Lynn Wood from Oakdale, with Lynn claiming the title on the 17th hole.

This is a busy time with the end of the Interclub matches , many Junior events including the Junior Championship and the District  Foursomes finals being held around the county. I wish you good golfing in sunny weather.
