Captain’s Message

A gloriously hot summer has provided some exciting golf in tricky conditions as courses have become very hard and bouncy. Congratulations to all those who have mastered the conditions and seen their handicaps improve rapidly.

The Championship was held at Pannal, enjoyed in wonderful weather before the courses dried out. A high quality field produced excellent golf with Pannal member Olivia Jackson winning the trophy. Next year in addition to the popular 18 hole nett competition there will be a Seniors Championship played at the same time.

The Challenge Bowl attracted a large entry and again saw good weather and golf in very difficult conditions. The hosts , Leeds Golf Club made everyone very welcome despite winning most of the prizes!

The Northern Counties Championship at Huddersfield Golf Club had windy weather but the golf was again outstanding with Yorkshire winning by a narrow margin. The County Team is now preparing to go to Devon in September for the National Finals.

I am looking forward to welcoming everyone to the Alison Nicholas AMAM on August 13th. This is the main fundraiser for a very worthwhile cause. Thank you to all who have donated prizes and to all taking part.

The climax of the County Foursomes is at Richmond Golf Club followed by the Interclub Finals at the end of the month. Yorkshire has competitions throughout the year for golfers of all standards. The elite players hit the headlines but they are only a small part of Yorkshire !
